First of all, I don't know why you have two stylesheets: 'style.css' and 'custom.css'. Just merge them, or choose one...

Anywho, your problem is probably that the text is too large for its div (or whatever you are using). If you are setting a fixed height, then you may want to reconsider if you want optimum compatibility with different font sizes. Also, I can't tell, but perhaps that background image is set to 'no-repeat'?

More CSS ?'s

Megan or anyone that knows the answers,
I made some changes to my CSS but they don't seem to be working properly. Could you take a look at it and tell me what problems you see. I was able to get several changes completed but I'm still having trouble with the font size. I want it smaller than it is when my browser is set to "medium" but after many attempts I can't seem to get it to go any smaller.

Also the larger text settings break up my footer, do you know how I can stop that.

Thanks! Also, I changed the main page. Deleted my java thingy, shortened the text and added some product images.

Sam

Thanks Megan & Renegade. I think it's back to the "learning board" on CSS for me!

Anyone know of a good tutorial on this topic?

Using px is also the same, it will not resize in IE.

As an add-on to what Megan said about giving several options of typeface, it's also recommended that you add a generic typeface - such as sans-serif - so that if the viewer doesn't have the fonts you've specified, then, it knows what kind of face to use.

Additionally, linux systems don't have Arial, Verdana or Helvetica by default.

Your CSS also needs some work. You should only have to define the base font and size in the body tag - all other elements will inherit this style. So the body tag should be defined at the top of the stylesheet and then all of the other rules won't need a font-family or size. You might want to re-read some basic CSS tutorials - just about how the cascade and inheritance works.

Also, you should define a series of font families. If a user doesn't have arial on their machine (rare, but could happen), they will see the default font here. Instead, define a series of fonts such as "arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif". That way, if the user doesn't have arial the browser will look for verdana, and if it can't find verdana it will look for helvetica and so on.

Your main body font is defined in point sizes (pt.) This is a problem on the web for a few reasons. First of all, it's not resizeable. If you use % or em's it will be resizable using the browser resize function in IE. Secondly, pt sizes are really unreliable on the web. They work well in print but in web browsers there can be a lot of variation.

So try playing with % sizes or em's. I find that something around 85% for a sans-serif font works well.
