I think this thread should be removed. I started reading, reviewed the site and was about to post comments. Read down further and saw that the guy hadn't been back and that the thread became a debate on rules. Can I recommend that this thread be removed to save anyone else from wasting their time reading it. I was going to post a review!

Busy wrote: It may not be spam but the member not returning after saying his client wants to see proof this week kind of yells spam. Most forums get a lot of spamsters, even in guestbooks spammers are wild (casinos mostly) but we here at TWF try to keep the boards spam free and remove most before members see it.

Eh, I think it's possible that he posted this on a bunch of forums and just forgot. I'm going to send him an email to try and find out.

P.S. We will be reconsidering the guidelines for this forum and how they are enforced. There will likely be a change in the semi-near future.

The other reason of course is something called "community spirit"

We actively try and encourage people to not just come on the board, ask for a review and then never post again. In addition, if they just review three sites and say "I like it" then they still won't get a review from the more experienced members of the board until they feel theat the requestor has made a valid contribution.

Personally it annoys the hell out of me when people review someone site that has been asked by a member or moderator to review some other sites. It defats the entire object of the guideline.

Plus I won't even look at the requestors site until I'm satisfied they have mad a contribution.

A forum is not all about one way traffic, its a place for people to interact...

Look at the description again, and this time think search engine spam

keywords in the description:
Can your critisism be more constructive than my wife's?
I'm trying to deveop a site for a rather vague brief.

The client is an actor, and he wanted to have a site that was, "kinda 50s/60s retro kind of thing, it has to look cool and trendy" so with that in mind I decided to go with a retro, worn type look, and after watching an epsiode of CSI Miami, and saw the beautiful reds, oranges and yellows decided that was my palette. It all seemed good, and I was quite happy with the first attempt. Until my wife walked in, said, "that's ugly" and promptly walked out! (the room, not my life!)

anyhow, could you please give me some more constructive critisism than that. If you think it's ugly too, then fine, but help me improve. THe client wants to see a proof this week.

The topic of the site is an actors homepage, most, if not all of those keywords I've made bold fit into an actors language

It may not be spam but the member not returning after saying his client wants to see proof this week kind of yells spam. Most forums get a lot of spamsters, even in guestbooks spammers are wild (casinos mostly) but we here at TWF try to keep the boards spam free and remove most before members see it.

Well not necessarily, like already stated, some spammers want their sites listed on the search engines so, they may include some text as to what the site is about.

Also, don't forget, people aren't stupid, if you make it look like you really want a review instead of just "here is my site " chances are, it won't be seen as spam

First of all, a spammer wouldn't have a lenghty description as to why they posted it, or how they did it.

Secondly, if they wanted to link it for search engine reasons, don't you think they'd word the link different than "Here it is"?

but not having a guideline allows people like this to link to a site and never come back - I think the name for this is spam, and as spammers they aren't interested in anyones thoughts or ideas, they just want their site listed so search engines can find it - hense the reason we have guidelines

All the guideline does is discourage people from posting their sites, and reviewing 3 other sites seems a pretty moot point since the review could be as simple as "I like it".

But this is not my forum, just my opinion.

Then that certainly proves a point about the review guidelines in that if more people followed them inclusding those giving the review, then the forum wold be a better place to live in
