In my opinion the phase of having "flash intros" is burning out. The problem with having a flash intro (especially a useless one) is people that are returning to your site have already seen the intro before. Even if the intro is "very cool" a returning user will eventually get tired of it and want to skip the intro and go straight to the site. On any website, intros eventually become an extra step (extra click to the main site..etc).

Good luck!

Mark

I don't use them for several reasons. I think you should get your visitors in the main page ASAP and not onstruct them with splash pages. Most of the time they are useless

Depends on the type of site. On some sites where the content/purpose of the site is multimedia of some sort, I have no problem with them. As long as there's an option to skip, of course.

Some examples I can think of offhand include sites for bands, movies, television shows, cartoons, etc.

Intro screens are useless, that is why you will only see them on "cheep websites". (Though there are some situations where it will be useful, but that is different).

I am going to have a small text link in an obvious but not stupid place on the site that will say somthing to the effect of "view broadband version" .

In my opinion, intro screens should only be used if they're going to help your site in some way. If all the intro screen does is "Hello - welcome to our site. Click below to enter" or something similar then it is a waste of time because you're just adding onto the 3 click rule! I do try to stick to the 3 click rule whenever possible...but anyway...that's just my opinion on intro screens.

You can also create an Intro page which redirects the user depending on what connection they are using and also if its there first time to the site (if not go stright to there choice (broadband or dial up).

I dont mind if its a site i have never been to, to have a intro. But if i go to the site all the time, i think its a pain to wait or to skip, i want to be stright in...

In addition to what I said there, I also think it's important to do it WELL. There's nothing worse than a poorly designed flash intro. You know the ones with the plain default fonts and text floating around. You can tell the designer picked up Flash yesterday and decided it would be cool to have an intro. :rolleyes:ETA: No offense meant, Ben I wrote that before I even saw your site. Something to consider though.
