Thanks Megan for the feedback.

The theme was designed by someone else. I thought it would work purely from the green color and the topic of reptiles. But a more yellow green might work better. Finally my reading preference is a light background and black text (cleaner and easier on the eyes) - but makes it harder to be creative and innovative in the theme.

A great photo would be very large. I have a couple images and can make more, but even in jpg they are 100k or so. Is there any advice on size for the logo? As for the minimal, I like that idea and will go with it. Sounds Great

Thanks for the help and advice.

Is that a theme made by someone else or did you do it? Sorry, I don't know too much about PHP-Nuke. I would go with something a litlte more earth toned. That greeen is really blue-ish. Try something with more of a yellow undertone, with accent colours moving into more ov a beige. Also wrok on the header graphics. Find a nice photo of a repitle and use it for the header. Good quality photos make great looking headers with little effort. Then you'll just need to put your text on top and that'll be it!

Something like this might work:

http://www.wellstyled.com/tools/colorscheme2/index-en.html
http://www.wellstyled.com/tools/colorscheme2/index-en.html

Some advice on PHP-Nuke: avoid the urge to put every available box on your front page. All those sites just look like a pile of boxes to me. Hard to sort through. Keep things minimal.
