Spam are bad, but appropiately named forum like this one would attract webmasters, but most of the time webmaster beginners would be attracted too, which would like also to share something to W3 community. What better way for them to learn from unselfish people some tricks and get some feedbacks to their sites (good or bad). This would help us grow, and who knows maybe one of the forum members site will fly off and will give credit to people who has helped him/her along the way...

Its really cool that there is a seperate Web Critique area, those that would like to critique and be critiqued would directly go there, for those that post ads and never come back, we just ignore them and nothing will happen.

If you dont want to help, dont go to that specific thread, thats as easy as it can get.

I don't know if Vbulletin supports it, but in some systems it's possible to disallow certain functionality until a member has posted x number of posts... perhaps we could turn off sig and profile functionality until they have posted 10 posts or something... or do you think that would just increase the amount of rubbish posts we get?

This is something that makes me snap too. In all boards I post .. and I do post in 50 or more now, I don't even think about asking a review until I have proved I can also give back to the community. I'm not in a forum to promote myself blatantly, but discreetly Although I think some of these spammers are quite successful into this.

Well .. anyway ... coming straight and placing an ad or a ask for review is if I might say RUDE. So I don't quite like people who do this. Come, review some sites, write some quality posts, make yourself respected a bit and then I'll review 1000 sites for you

I agree, it is annoying, but it happens on every forum I've ever been on (including mine). TWF is more lenient about it than most.

It happens on all forums. I moderate a board at talkspeeding.co.uk it's about car stuff and we get loads of people signing up asking a question, finding what they need to know and then never coming back. Very few people actually come back frequently.

It's not a rule, it's a guideline and we have deliberately chosen not to force people to follow it. If you want to know why, try doing a search in this forum. The subject has come up before many times.

Well, do we have a rule asking for three site reviews before you post your own site? I've seen it on other boards, and it really cuts the spam.

Also, you could say that accounts are inactive until you post five posts, that would kill of the spammers
