Recent changes:
- second reverse style has been removed
- 3 column style (which will be default for new visitors) for home page
- revised icons on main page
- new 'Articles' section on main page
- the first article, of course!

In progress:
Gallery with Google Maps hookup

I'm still working on this enhancement to my gallery. It adds Google Maps directly into the gallery, instead of in a new window. I've added a centerpoint to the map, along with coordinate readout, zoom, and area dimensions below the map. I've got a single thumbnail image on top of the map, clicking on it gives you the full size image. I still have to work on the shadow/border for the thumbnail and put in the others. This is a work in progress, and is not currently hooked up to the rest of the site.

Google Maps is a very powerful tool!

Here are the most recent changes:
- reduced size of header
- moved the site search into the navigation menu bar
- reorganized the home page to fit as much as possible 'above the fold'
- added serif font preference option
- slightly changed the layout look
- renamed/reorganized the menu
- added large thumbnails to online image processor description page
- re-worked the services page
- reworded some of the portfolio page, added new thumbs
- added to the about page

I guess it might have been easier to say that just the Gallery page is unchanged!

How's it look now?

I've listened to the advice that has been given, and here are the changes I've made:

- The gray background on the sides has been replaced with something that better complements the header image
- Narrowing the home page sidebar leaves more room for above fold content
- The main navigation 'hover' effect is more pronounced
- Galleries can now be shown in the same window, or in a popup window
- Extra hints on the gallery page "800x600 visitors should display galleries in a new window, or hit F11 to enlarge viewing area."
- Portfolio page reflects the new same page vs new window style for galleries
- Traditional Chinese now available as a translation option
- css file cleaned up

I agree that all sites should work reasonably at 800x600, but since most users view at a higher resolution, that's the true target.

The header picture now changes according to the style, and pages come up smoother.

Yeah, I guess on your 1024x768 it'd be all right. I'm running 800x600 so it takes more of my screen.

It does take up a fair amount of space, but I think it is reasonable. On a system at 1024x768 with a fully decked out browser (ie: extensions up the yin-yang), the side margins take about 1/3 of the width. Of that remaining width, the sidebar takes 1/3. Of the 550 pixels of height that's visible, the top image/logo takes 180 pixels, a shade under 1/3. This also shows the intro paragraph, and the first three items (products). The remaining items (not shown until you scroll) are merely galleries, news items, copyright and validation. From a photographer's eye, it follows the composition rule of thirds, which usually make things asthetically pleasing. Granted photography and page layout are different things, but in both - beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

However, it is something I'll keep in mind.
