Well... the layout is good, your color scheme is okay. The ultra-bright green is really bothering me almost as much as the bright yellow. What I would do is go with a dark green, and lighten up the tint of the yellow (more pastel).

And I thought kung fu meant hax0r ski11z...

The original idea for this site, was online yardsale. Making it easier for people to trade stuff or sell stuff locally, all year long and without having to actually do all the messy yard sale stuff. The site still promote's this but we have added the ability for business to get in on it also. We are different because we do the advertising for you, We take out weekly classified ads in local papers for the most popular items on the site. In that I believe we are different. The goal is to get local people into your store or yardsale, while also giving you the ability to reach outside your region to people who are willing to buy outside thier region and pay for shipping and all that. When you put something up for auction on ebay you loose control of your sale, often loosing your treasure to a low bidder. We are trying to give the control of the sale back to you.
Does that make any sense?

I will look into the issues with opera. we had to use that scrolling menu because the lists were blowing off the page.

Thanks again for your input, you guys are great!

It's good, nice layout and overall a nice site. I don't think it matters how you sell something, what's more important is whether that something can sell itself. If it sells itself all a salesman has to do is point the client in the right direction and the idea will take-off.

[EDIT]

What makes this service different from e-bay, what stands out and makes me want to use this service over other, similar, more popular ones?

Also: Why is the service done on a regional basis? What value does this add to the service?

And one more thing: Your drop-downs dont work in Opera, the code is somewhat difficult to read - probably due to all that hidden ASP garbage and large amount of drop-down options.

Thank you all for your input. I have started marketing a little, I have place clissified ads in a lot of regions and I am having some signs made. Unfortunatly I have NO experience in marketing, so I am wingin' it a bit. Also I have a limited amount of marketing funds.
Any suggestions on where or how to get the most BANG for my buck?
We are based in the Spokane Washington area and have about 150 items in our region. We have a 3 man sales force working our area on commission only buy zip code's, trying to get Pawn shops, auto dealers, antique stores, estate salers...etc, to pay for business accounts. Or to get non-profits use the site. I am at a loss what else to do.. any idea's?

A few things:
You need width and height tags on the images (listings images)
The 'sort by' icons are tiny, so small would be easily missed
The 'report abuse' should be done via a form, not all modern browsers support the subject/body options now, also you'll be getting a lot of spam to that address from harvestor bots
The 'click to enlarge' on listings isn't working (in mozilla)
The 'window' is confusing, am guessing a 'window' is a 'item' or a 'listing'?
Slight horziontal scroll at 800x600

Colours don't do much for it but the layout and 'kung fu' is good
good luck

StraitNoChaser wrote: Please check out my site i need help with my kung fu!

Gosh, I think the site is actually nice. I like the yellow and green. Have you changed it in the last few days, or am I seeing the same thing Megan saw? I agree that your logo is nice. The layout is easy to use. The account creation page is a little cluttered, but I mostly liked it, as my account creation page scrolls for days (and I don't like that). I couldn't break your sub-menus (the DHTML flyouts that scroll). But mostly the only way I tried to break them was to use Mozilla, to see if you had failed to code for that DOM. Looks like you got it covered.

I guess if anything, the big problem for your site now is that you need data. For example, I selected San Jose and started browsing. But every search I tried, no results. That's OK temporarily, but my advice would be to put the Webmastering aside and pour energy into Marketing. Get people into the system.

The colors were chosen to make it sort of family friendly. To make it seem like a home designed yard sale sign, Thankyou.
