How about going with a local hosting company? wherever you are from look for a local ISP or a comp shop and talk to them and see what they have to offer. Who needs phone support when you can speak face to face wtih someone?

Been with them for years and no problems yet.
As for GoDaddy, I use them too very easy to manage multiple domains and the autorenewal and locking keeps your name from getting swiped by that new legislation Icann just passed.

I would avoid Ohm.net. They really don't do a very good job of keeping things updated and patched. Last I looked they were running PHP 4.1, and MySQL 3.23. The only time that I have ever had a site hacked was with them because they left an old cgi program around that wasn't patched and the server was compromised. They also once charged me $50 to restore a MySQL database. I was willing the pay the price but they took all day to do it which made it worse.

GoDaddy can be annoying but they are still cheap and I have never had a problem with them.

It totally depends on the host you pick. I can think of hosts in around the same price range for the same features, some of which are great and have thousands of satisfied customers, others which I've only heard horror stories about. I'd recommend doing some searches, seeing how much hosts charge for their plans, when you find one that looks good to you do some searches for reviews of that host to make sure their offer isn't too good to be true in one way or another.

The competition is driving pricing to zero. And many of the no cost hosting companies offer a solid product, for a nominal thing, such as posting in the forums on a semi-regular basis. A few a week.

Don't assume paying for hosting is the only way to get a good hosting account anymore!

Always check out the features a hosting company offers and make sure it's everthing you need. Many of the cheap hosts don't offer all the features you might need or want.

If you shop around though you can find some really great deals. The competition in the hosting business is driving prices way down.

Personally... my advice is to remember that you get what you pay for. If you are serious about hosting, don't go with the cheapo providers, you'll always end up regretting it in some form or another.
