Thinkpixel yes I heard the same thing about them only supporting sp1 and up. I installed sp2 on an sp1 machine and it had issues. I don't recall the problem you mentioned but I do know that I had winRar installed and it caused my explorer to stall whenever I right clicked on a rar file.

I decided instead that of installing sp2 over sp1 it would be more efficient to install sp2 right from the beginning. I got my hands on an Windows install disk that has sp2 precompiled into it. I beleive the phrase is "slipstreamed". You can create your own sp2 disk using the method here: http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/winxp-sp2-bootcd.html

Yes dk01, I agree. Plus if you have been to Microsoft's site lately they are now stating they will soon no longer support anything less the sp1 and sp2. So those who don't update will be out of luck in the future. Btw have you ever experienced the problem I mention that started this thread? Thnx.

I hate to mention it. I know sp2 created some problems with IE, but recommending that someone should not install sp2 is probably not the best advice. SP2 has some seriously important updates that patch vulnerabilities. Not going with it leaves you open to rooting, svhost attacks etc. I know it may cause problems but installing windows xp sp2 IS good. This is all IMO of course

As for your problem I think you found the right solution. At least you know you are safer off than before!

I think it might be just your computer. I am up to date on all my updates as of this week end. I am useing XP Pro. I just used IE on my web sites and its all playing in Player 7. I also have MX 2004. I am proubaly going to reformat this weekend because all the updates are messing up my computer. All I wanted sirvice pack 2 for was USB 2.0 drivers. I will just burn those to cd and reformat and never get SP2.

My problem is occurring while surfing sites I manage. I am aware of the offline problem and fixed that a long time ago. Somehow all flash content was being played by the Flash 5 plug-in, even though I not only have the Flash 7 plug-in but MX2004 which installs Flash in every browser for you. It seems that some upgrade I did, uninstalled my flash 7 plug-in, has anyone else heard of this happening? Or is it just an isolated case? Thanks.

Yes I know Windows has it's issues, but as a web developer I also am aware it makes up 90% of my audience, Firefox about 2%. So with that being said if this is happening to 90% of my audience, this problem could become a huge deterant of them looking at our companies websites. I was not asking for a better browser (I already use firefox), I was looking for a solution to the problem I described. Thanks.

1st off I want to say "Windows sucks". Sirvice pack 2 is the worst thing since windows crashed when bill gates was presenting it. The bar should only show up when you are "working offline". Web content is not blocked. The simplest way for you to get around that is switch your primary browser. I recomend FireFox.
