I like WMP because their music database seems to be very accurate.
Reasons I don't like CDEX:
1) song data is user submitted
2) you cannot rip CDs with various artists and get the correct artist in the tag, because it will only support 1 artist per CD

I generally find WMP to be rather clunky and annoying. iTunes is so light and easy. I've recently discovered the "smart playlist" functionality which is really cool.

You have to buy a decoder for the DVD support in WMP though, so it is hardly ideal.

Windows Media Player 10 has "5.1 audio" support plus dvd support and all else new, A Built in cool CD ripper where you can name lists immediately before rip. If soundcard is 5.1, any standard audio music will be processed as 5.1 audio.

Musicmatch Jukebox, when there was no itunes this was the best. With itunes it is Still the Best...

for light foot print, good quality sound and fast load time, try SRS labs cinematic mp3, or cinemati either of the two the other has editing support. the other is a plain player like winamp only better.

What is wrong with windows media player? I have found most luck with it. It will retrieve all album info automatically. If you don't want to use windows media player because it does not rip to mp3, easy solution, just buy the plugin for $10 to rip to mp3!

No worries, dynanmite. It's always cool to bring up old threads if there's something you can add to the conversation.

(There is a lot of great software out there for free, and that's a wonderful thing, but at the same time people put a lot of work into some of those programs. The least I can do is show my appreciation with a little $$. $15 isn't much for a program as good as winamp.)

I personally like the older versions of WinAmp...not the newer version(s).
I wouldn't pay for a program like that, either.

I'm not sure of any other program, but as you can see there is quite a selection above. No matter what, though, I think WinAmp pwns all of them...
