ok it sounds like you have entered something wrong...

Check the following:

1 - Database server/hostname - Try entering here the actual IP address for the MySQL server you have supplied by your host

2 - Your database name: The actual name you gave the database when you created it

3 - Database Username/password: When you created the database you should have been prompted to give it a username and password. Enter those here..

As Abhi said though it really depends on how you created the database. Does your host allow you to do it through a control panel? If so you would have chosen a database user/pass...

I'd be happy to install if for you but I would need sensitive information about your host which you may, quite rightly, be unwilling to give out...

Hmm it works, it starts installing, but it says it could not connect to the database when I hit the "Install" button.
If my program says I created a database called appollyon_1 and the database host is freelinuxhost.com what would I fill in for Database Name and Database Username (two different things). I've tried switching them, but still get the same error.

OK. It sounds like you have downloaded the board so the first step is to create a new MySQL database and give it a name, anything you like really just make a note of the details.

Then goto http://www.yourdomain.com/phpbb

Obviously change it to your location. You should get bounced to the install page. Fill out the information there and then once its configured delete the install and contrib directories.

You should then be able to log into the board.

The whole thing should take you no more than 5 minutes...
