ok, I figured out that deals with were the code is placed in the HTML file. I C+P'd the nav after the content, and now it stretches, but it goes under the content. You have to look to see what I mean. I made the nav background green to make it a little easier to see.

Ugh still problems. I think you'll be able to see them for your self when you look at it.

In firefox it only stretches down the content area height, even though the nav is longer, in IE the nav stretches out and looks weird.

Even if you take away the height parameter, the box will only be as high as its content. How faux columns work is you get a box somehow that *does* naturally go down the length of the page, and assign it the background you want.

To get a box to stretch all the way down, you'll either give your background, or you'll create a wrapping all your content, so it's at the maximum possible height, and give that the background.

Looks like the article didn't specify this clearly.

It seems on Mozilla the image is loading fine. It runs down the length of the the 300px high box, as expected. It doesn't run down the length of the page (faux column) because the box is only 300px high.

I don't see what your problem is. Is it that the image doesn't load? That the column doesn't go down the whole page? What about it isn't working for you?

Also... keep your CSS file in the site root folder (in this case "/library/" as different browsers handle relative URL's differently. Some make the reference releative to the css file and some are releative to the html document.

Because you've specified "../" to go up a directory level to find the images this would mean that some browsers would look for the image here:

http://madclassifieds.000k.net/library/images/body/navbackground.png'

and others would look for the image here: (and not find it!)

http://madclassifieds.000k.net/images/body/navbackground.png'

It's a problem that's easily solved by just keeping your CSS files in the root directory of the website.

Try doing it verbosely.

background-image: url('../images/body/navbackground.png');
background-repeat: repeat-y;

Also, you've set a height for the box. So any background in it will only tile as far as the box goes, no further. Certainly not "down the page". You'll need a box that goes all the way down to the bottom of all the content to get that effect.
