SP2 contains a lot of firewalls and security for your system...
it screwed up my computer once also so i don't advise updating from SP1
but if you want increased security, then this is definitely the one to download...!

~also, spyware may decrease the performance of your system. Download Ad-Aware by Lavasoft and this will search and destroy for you. For advanced users, use HijackThis. Remember to have an anti-virus installed like Norton or McAfee.~

~hope this helps!~contact me if you have problems!!~

Update, it appears that the "security warnings" I am getting are only coming from web pages on my hard drive. (ie, the temp file dreamweaver made to show me the table, A tutorial page that corel draw 12 provides, including any local PDF files that are linked to from an HTML file on my hard drive...)

So I'll have to go in and tell it that my hard drive is a trusted page somehow...

Since my installing SP2 on my laptop (900mhz celron laptop, 256 megs ram, XP Home), it now takes longer to boot up.

I did shut off the stupid virus monitoring. System resources are alreay chewed up by virus software watching programs, and then microsoft decides to waste more by watching my virus software watch programs? Was annoying everytime virus paterns updated and restarted the virus software, had baloons pop up wartning me how vunarable my computer is becuase I lack virus software.

Then the other big anoyance was this "active content blocking" or whatever the heck it is. I used Dreamweaver MX 2004 to creat a simple table, no scripitng at all, just a table that I didn't want to hand code. I did a preview in IE, and IE comes up and said in order to protect me it has blocked contnent??????

Today it was back again, I used some script from Dynamic Drive to ad a pop up layer ad for a site I host yet they no longer pay for. It casues this warning to come up. (however the demo on DD didn't tell me this (http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex17/amazondrop.htm).

I'm ready to spend the hours to reinstall all the software on my laptop to clean it up from SP2 and some other programs I had installed in the past and no longer need.

-Greg

I have SP2 installed on about 40 odd machines at work with zero problems. Some of the machines are older P3's but most are fairly new. The only thing that I had to do was to alter the GP to open up some of the necessary ports. The only computer that I have that had problems with SP2 was probably not caused by SP2.

I upgraded to SP2 and haven't had any major problems. One problem I have noticed is that sometimes certain programs don't shut down correctly. I use a program called HTML-Kit for my HTML work and sometimes when I go to close it down it crashes and I get that silly window asking if I want to send the details of the crash to MS. That's probably more of a problem with the program itself than with SP2. I haven't tried reinstalling it as I plan on switching to a different editor anyway.

Other than that I've not had any problems

The only problems I know for sure with SP2 are driver compatability issues with the ATI line of video cards. It seems that ATI series cards prior to the 9800 series will not function properly after an SP2 installation. This comes from first hand working Tech. As for other reported problems I used it on one of my office machines and it did not cause any major issues other than in a XP Corporate pro environment it caused issues with some of the network security. File sharing issues were the main problems.

Thanks for the tip. I have yet to install SP2 on my home computer, but did so on four of the Dells at work. None of them had any problems of any kind, and that was at least two months ago or so. Ya just hear things through the grapevine, makes you wonder, hehehe.

Thanks again.
