Don't get me wrong, I wasn't stressing what I said above was all there is to it. That's all I'd observed from flipping through adverts.

They may ask you things about how you work with others, how you would integrate into their team, what you know about their specific industry, things like that. They will likely ask you to provide examples of situations where you've demonstrated (some skill they're looking for). Look carefully at the job description and make sure you are prepared to respond to every qualification. There will also be a few questions you're not prepared for. I always find that employers ask weird questions.

They will most likely also ask you how much you expect to be paid. Be prepared for that one.

I've never been to an interview of any kind for a professional job so don't quote me on this. From what I've seen on classifieds and job offers, there seem to be two central points:
1. Experience and portfolio.
2. Knowledge of certain technologies and software, be they HTML, XHTML, PHP, ASP, .NET. Java, databases, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, whatever.

At least in NZ, substantial portfolios appear to be a requisite for any visual design-related positions. Number of years in practice is asked for more in programming and systems type positions.

I would expect they will want to see ability to communicate (language), for obvious reasons. And depending where you are, additional languages may be an asset.

I guess that if you're dealing with the IT department of the auto company, then you mightl be asked specialised questions. For instance, I have a friend in Arkansas who applied for a network admin job recently and had to sit a short quiz on networking basics.

Do you get help from others?
How long does it take you to [theoretical project]?
Are you familiar with databases?
Is your information secure?
