If someone wants a banner designed they can advertise for one in the market place

If someone wants advice or opinions on banners they have created they can list in the graphics section

IMO this way works as no one is better than anyone else, everyones tastes and opinions vary so no one person is right or wrong.

TWF isn't other sites

The idea of TWF (or at least my understanding of it) is for people interested in the web world to come together to help one another. To ask for or help with a problem.
Unlike other webmaster forums, TWF is a non profit site run by volunteers, has never included affiliate banners or links to pay for it's running. the banners up top are for advertising of members sites - for free.

Also, to run contests etc would have to mean someone was better than everyone else. We are all equal here, age is only a number, skills and talents are so varied, locations of members stretch across the world back again.

How would you judge the best web site? by page rank, by awards won, by money earnt, by visitors received, by amount of eye candy used ... ?
I could use one of my sites as a perfect example, has a page rank of 0 (as I block all SE's) yet my log files average on 90mb a week (nine zero and it's not a porn or casino site) and has very little in the way of eye candy, has never won an award - is only newish but is mostly valid XHTML. Would I win?
