ssi stands for server side includes.

it's completley different with far less functionality.

it's basically gone the way of the dinosaur due to its lack of functionality.

SSI uses Apache's built in methods to include files. It MUST be enabled to use it.

PHP is a different server-side language.

So you'd be trading one for the other. SSI has less function.
