    <description> &lt;p&gt;They are called 3rd party cookies, as Mark mentioned most come from banners but can also come from trackers (site counter/tracker). Most browsers have an option to disallow 3rd party cookies&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;However, if you visit Site A, which has a banner from Site B.  Site B is capable of placing a cookie on your computer.&lt;/p&gt;
