You mean simply having them load on different points of the same page, or have them work together somehow? The former is definitely possible. The latter should also be possible, but I'm not sure exactly how. I don't know how Java applet APIs work, but Flash is interoperable at least with Javascript (which you could use as an intermediary if needed). But I get the feeling that would be complicating things, and that you only want the former anyway.

Load times really depend on file sizes. Best way to see how your files are handled is to test them on different connections, as Mark suggests.

I agree with Busy on the bells and whistles issue. If you have doubts about it, chances are it's unnecessary in the first place.

Still, give us a link and let's see what exactly you're trying to do.

I don't know of any reason Flash and Java applets wouldn't work on the same page.

I've got both enabled. Post a link, and I'll let you know of load times (I'm on broadband).

me personaly thou have java and flash disabled.

If you yourself query the bells and whistles thing then it must be true. do you really need them? and do you have them for anything important, such as navigation etc, because if you do, I like many others wouldnt beable to browse your site.
