&lt;p&gt;To put it short... It&#039;s the servers that hold information about what hosts/domains point to what IPs. For example, when you type in &lt;a href=&quot;http://www.google.com&quot; class=&quot;bb-url&quot;&gt;google.com&lt;/a&gt; in your browser, the DNS tells your computer to go to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (IP address). Domain names are just aliases for IP addresses.&lt;/p&gt;
