I like the right because it is a little different from the norm. But after talking to lots of different kinds of people - I found that the left is better because they 'feel' that it is 'right' and 'normal' to be placed there. So the design may need to change in order to create that balance.

It started with v. 5.5 when they introduced ImageReady. It's actually just a bit of that program pulled into Photoshop. Handy as can be

Thanks IanD for reminding me to do that little task. It slipped my mind.

I got most of them down in the 30-40 range but some started to loose too much quality below 40. I totally agree on having small image sizes but I think in this case, a little extra weight might be worth a good image impression of the home and beach.

Not v5 which I still have. I use a 3rd party app for my optimization. I use a lot of 3rd party apps actually - creature of habit I guess.

It's pretty nice. It'll let you choose from various presets (color sets, quality, image format, size) and gives you a preview of what it'll look like and what size it'll be. I think you can also set your own values, too. I know v7 has it, not sure if older ones do or not.

Page looks good, but your photo sizes are huge. 70k for a 400x300 jpg? Drop the quality down until it's around 20-25k, 30k max. If you're using Photoshop, goto File > Save for Web.
