I voted 800x600 because many older 14"/15" monitors cannot even display more than 800x600. And people with bad eyesight also choose 800x600. As we always want everyone to view our websites then we should go for the res that is compatible with most peoples computers.

I normally choose 800x600 for a size.

when i choose 100%, then all my graphics always seem screwed up, part of the learning curve I suppose.

I try to make sure a stretch layout will work on 640x480 but i guess that is a consideration when evaluating your user base.

Don't something like 40% of visitors in most cases browse at 800 x 600? 30% maybe? I think it's a little premature to stop considering such a common resolution, unless you had a site in a particular niche market like graphic design or gaming maybe. Even if you do flexible width sites you still have to keep some minimum resolution in mind.

I still prefer to design to 800*600 and mostly centered fixed width but it really does depend on the site/content.

I try to start at 800 X 600. Though, sometimes someone wants me to code a layout they've already made graphics for and it's bigger. If I make the layout it usually stretches to fit unless the layout is designed to fit in 800X600 and stay that size, most aren't though.

I design for 800 X 600 and if anyway possible, make them work for all resolutions. And that would be liquid ehh?
