I think IE loses the plot when it comes to standards. I'd prefer to use Opera 7. Much faster and easier..

Back to the original question...

Quote: Originally posted by disaster-master
Looks like WASP has apparently retired its Browser Upgrade Campaign. This is good news don't you think?

Yes and no. It does mean that there is a certain level of standards support across the board. That's good - we don't have to worry about support until we reach that level. At this point in time that may be acceptable (or not ), but will it still be acceptable six months from now? What about next year? What happens if you want to use something that the laggards don't support? There's always going to be one or two browsers at the bottom of the pack that hold us back. So do we accept the level that it's at now or do we continue to push for better and more consitent support? It's a never ending story

Ok so IE load quickly. That's because it has been pre-installed by M$ on windows machine. And like Suzanne pointed out, by writing valid code they will display properly. In the end you are allowed to only code for one browser and that may be fine for your site. Just as long as you realize that when you code someone else's website with this method and then their customers complain that the site displays incorrectly and they loose their business, the company might not come back to you for business. You can shrug this stuff off all you want but in the end you will be the one who falls behind. Why not go the extra mile now, learn how to code using standards, and then make it habit so that you are a better coder? I guess its your choice and it took me a long time to come around. I was sooooo ignorant about it. But you're a big boy so decide for yourself.

P.S. I'm serious but here's one for ya:

... I'm rarely serious. No smileys = so serious it's painful.

Perhaps if you wrote your sites using standards, they would display properly.

standards? i don't care about standards, all i know is that IE always displays my web sites as they should be displayed, and the same cannot be said for most other browsers.

And the fact that you do a *wink* after almost every paragraph you write anyway, means that its hard to tell when you're joking or not, unless of course you're never serious?

I use IE almost all the time and it is very good, loads instantly on mine anyway, much faster than my other browser, Avant.

So there!

some of the other browsers (mozilla, etc) do have quick launch

NS4.7 is the only way to go ;););)

Actually, no I don't. I use OSX and rarely have to shut my browser at all. More excitingly, I use Safari and it loads in a blip.

Of course, other browsers aren't tightly wrapped into your operating system. IE takes a longer time to load on my system than Safari, Camino. About the same as N7. But it has poopy bookmark abilities and no tabs, so it only gets to test sites.

lol... IE might not be the best browser out there, but at least i dont have to wait 30 seconds for it to load and sit watching a stupid splash screen. I wish you could have a pre-launcher thing for other browsers then i might consider them as my main browser, but i'm too busy to have to sit and wait for simple applications to load.

Ya know what i mean guvner?

I have noticed increasingly that as people are building standards compliant sites and are using css for layout that IE 6 fails to display properly and Mozilla and Opera gets it right. This to me says it all.
