kidding but i was using
marketing basics

reason- they are hungry
solution- website offers food vendor locations
my interest $- ads from major food vendors, or manufacturers

thats just how I would do it, clickable map, user based reviews so I dont have to do any research, maybe get some sort of promotional sponsorship, the "vendor of the week" gets their photo put up.

But i dont have the pulse of the page. however I wouldnt emphasize the lack of sanitation or dingyness of operating conditions. I would maybe look at getting all carribean or south american based vendors, categorize by locale and then link from hotel pages like places to eat or from tourism boards, but then im always looking to make $ not have fun with hypertext markup language. !-Josh

First of all Welcome to TWF If you haven't already, why don't your drop by the "Introductions" and introduce your self?

Right about your page, the first thing I notice is that in the title bar it says "New Page 1" ... you should change that to something else.

The buttons that you use for the navigation: What about if you moved it to the left a bit more and sort of "join" it up with that bit on the side and then make the buttons rollovers.

The picture of the two guys standing there with the stall at the bottom looks as if it's just been chucked in there, put it nearer the top under where is says Vendorfood.com.

I don't think it is common to redirect based on screen resolution and those sites that do annoy me as I have my screen set to 1152*864 but always browse at 800*600 browser size. Leave it up to the user and just design so it looks good at all sizes.

size tables to 100% auto adjusts. i dont understand the purpose of your website. Is it to act as a chat community for food vendors or to list food vendors and gain ad opportunities through product positioning or? -Josh

With the colors I'm trying to present an earthy tone. I'm not representing the food so much as the vendors themselves. My impression of vendors comes mostly from Caribbean and Central/South American sources and hot dogs are not on the menu in these places. If you've been to these places you know where the vendors work it is often not so bright and colorful and clean.
I am planning to do 3 different versions of the home page with a javascript to automatically redirect to the appropriate page depending on the users screen resolution. Is this a common practice?

its true that not all street vendors offer hotdogs, but i bet if we asked 100 people what food you could buy from those people the majority would say hotdogs!

The point i was trying to get at is that the logo should somehow represent the industry its about.

Are hot dogs universal street vendor offerings?!

I sincerely hope that's not the case.

What is common to street vendors all over the world? This is your premise, so you should be able to pull the common elements and use those to drive your design.

All vendors I've bumped into in North America and parts of Europe use metal, wheeled carts with heating elements and umbrellas, for instance, but the foodstuffs vary.

How about something like this?

Its nice and simple, the site name is big and easy to read, and it really suits the subject matter.

If you like it, you can download the original fireworks .png file from http://www.nuzone.co.uk/wf/streetvendor.png

I hope i've been some help!
