No argument, that's exactly what I meant. The style is so uniform I would be hard pressed to recall which site belonged to who without logos.

I tend to agree with you there. Use of photos does tend to be a common thread among them though.

I don't find them particularly "corporate" though. It's funny how different people can have very different ideas of what these things mean! Or are we just looking at sites of corporations rather than sites in a corporate design style?

Well the company is called Automated Solutions International Inc. It services utilities and municipalities in Ontario, Canada. It is not very big and is more centered around engineering. They already have a corporate logo and colors (blue,grey,purple) there needs to be alot of white space as well. Go to their existing site. goasi.com

What kind of business is it? How big? Whats the target audience? How many visitors per day? How much content?

Normally large corporations take into consideration demographics, user response, 3 clicks to all content, color scheme, branding, etc..
before making a decision on their website layout. If your running a business that produces movies for example (an extreme i know but for examples sake..), your not going to want a cut and dry newspaper style site.. but on the other hand if your business is relaying real time stock information - the content is king, not the eye candy.

Browsing a design portal such as coolhomepages is a good place to start, but also notice the type of service or industry the sites are in as well.
