&lt;p&gt;Joking aside, from Win98+ and OSX you can have anti-aliasing for a set size. Pages look *so* much nicer. Man. I opened N4 (in OS9) for testing the other day and was so sad to see the jaggies.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Yes, with Windows XP, go to Control Panel &amp;gt; System &amp;gt; Advanced &amp;gt; Performance Settings, and in the list, tick the &quot;Smooth edges of screen fonts&quot; box.
