Nothing is cut and dried, be prepared for all sorts of argument, and you'll need to do some research.

xhtml/css may resolve your issues best without doing problematic browser sniffing.

But the point is you should be able to do so using CSS by specifying a specific stylesheet for PDAs, using the media="handheld" type.

i want a redirect so i can direct the viewer to a more streamlined page on the site, that is basically text with minimal graphics. not really wanting to use xml.

Why would you redirect for different operating systems? XML and/or XHTML would suit your needs better, no?
