    <description> &lt;p&gt;the percentage is small but is still in use, from the people I know of that use it they try upgrading but what they upgraded to wasn&#039;t worth it (NS6, IE6, opera6) all having major flaws or problems somewhere along the way so resort back to trusty old NS4.* &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I know I&#039;ll get my butt kicked for saying this &lt;img src=&quot;https://www.webmaster-forums.net/misc/smileys/wink.png&quot; title=&quot;Wink&quot; alt=&quot;Wink&quot; class=&quot;smiley-content&quot; /&gt; but NS4.* will be around for a while yet.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Instead of going for all browsers, go for accessibilty, try turn your graphics, css and even tables off, is it still workable? NS4.7 is great because it&#039;s a lot closer to what people with disabilitys can use. (no frills)&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;My logs last week even showed I had viewers using IE3 (would hate to see what they saw lol). &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;CSS backgrounds do work in NS4.*, so do HTML ones but you can&#039;t have empty  cells, also NS doesnt like colour-background-color in tables it will display color-background-background&lt;/p&gt;

    <description> &lt;p&gt;Unfortuntely, I don&#039;t have NS4.0 to check my stuff, just Opera, Mozilla, NS 7.0, and IE.  Well, I uploaded the page several times in the last few days, however, I never did anything different to that code, so I can&#039;t see why it would have ever cut off.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Thanks for the observations.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;BTW, what percentage of surfers roughly use NS 4.0 compared to what is out now.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;thanks&lt;br /&gt;

    <description> &lt;p&gt;It&#039;s coming through fine now? Did you reupload the page? There are no html errors (barring using marginheight, et cetera, and not using type=&quot;text/javascript&quot; for the JavaScript) and the CSS checks out fine as well. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;It&#039;s not that the code is bad, it&#039;s that it was getting cut off (which was causing other errors).&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Now, those backgrounds that aren&#039;t showing up -- N4.x only?&lt;/p&gt;

    <description> &lt;p&gt;the source that I read came from&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;a href=&quot;http://homepages.evansville.edu/bk38/special/example.htm&quot; class=&quot;bb-url&quot;&gt;http://homepages.evansville.edu/bk38/special/example.htm&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Then I choose VIEW and SOURCE CODE.  &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I am slowly starting to understand how javascript is being put together, but its very slow.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Where should that array be?&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;BTW, I appreciate everyones responses and patience.  I know I ask alot of questions and I (probably am) annoying with them, but I just appreciate no one jumping my butt or ending their replies.  I love this forum and I enjoy posting and reading here.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Thanks for everything,&lt;br /&gt;
Bryan&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;p.s.  If that is a poor code, where can i get a good one to display the current date everyday on the website?&lt;/p&gt;

    <description> &lt;p&gt;That isn&#039;t what I got (see &lt;strong&gt;quoted code above&lt;/strong&gt;).&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Source code that you&#039;re uploading, or what the browser source displays?&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;For what it&#039;s worth, I don&#039;t use double quotes for JavaScript unless quoting attribute values in document.write (which SHOULD BE DONE), keep single quotes for JavaScript.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Also, look at the first array -- the ); is on the wrong line (hard return) where it doesn&#039;t belong.&lt;/p&gt;

    <description> &lt;p&gt;I don&#039;t understand.  When I look at the source code this is what I see&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;div class=&quot;codeblock&quot;&gt;&lt;code&gt;&amp;amp;lt;script language=Javascript&amp;amp;gt; &lt;br /&gt;&amp;lt;!-- // Array of day names &lt;br /&gt;var dayNames = new Array(&amp;quot;Sunday&amp;quot;,&amp;quot;Monday&amp;quot;,&amp;quot;Tuesday&amp;quot;,&amp;quot;Wednesday&amp;quot;,&amp;quot;Thursday&amp;quot;,&amp;quot;Friday&amp;quot;,&amp;quot;Saturday&amp;quot; &lt;br /&gt;); &lt;br /&gt;// Array of month Namesvar &lt;br /&gt;monthNames = new &lt;br /&gt;Array(&amp;quot;January&amp;quot;,&amp;quot;February&amp;quot;,&amp;quot;March&amp;quot;,&amp;quot;April&amp;quot;,&amp;quot;May&amp;quot;,&amp;quot;June&amp;quot;,&amp;quot;July&amp;quot;,&amp;quot;August&amp;quot;,&amp;quot;September&amp;quot;,&amp;quot;October&amp;quot;,&amp;quot;November&amp;quot;,&amp;quot;December&amp;quot;); &lt;br /&gt;var now = new Date(); &lt;br /&gt;document.write(&amp;quot;&amp;lt;font color=#006699 face=Arial size=1&amp;gt;&amp;quot; + dayNames[now.getDay()] + &amp;quot;, &amp;quot; + monthNames[now.getMonth()] + &amp;quot; &amp;quot;+ now.getDate() + &amp;quot;, 2003&amp;quot; ); &lt;br /&gt;// --&amp;gt; &lt;br /&gt;&amp;amp;lt;/script&amp;amp;gt;&amp;lt;/div&amp;gt;&lt;/code&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&#039;&lt;/p&gt;

    <description> &lt;p&gt;well, yes, that and it&#039;s missing the closing script tag and is half cut off.&lt;/p&gt;

    <description> &lt;p&gt;So in the javascript example at the top of this page, because it includes  that is why it won&#039;t work with the new code&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;lt;script language=&quot;javascript&quot; type=&quot;text/javascript&quot;&amp;gt;&lt;/p&gt;

    <description> &lt;p&gt;to do javascript on the page the basic tag is this:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;lt;script language=&quot;javascript&quot; type=&quot;text/javascript&quot;&amp;gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;lt;/script&amp;gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;no html or css should be between the script tags (unless your using document.write or something)&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;the line 99 warning is:&lt;br /&gt;
Line : 99 Level : 1 You have no &lt;strong&gt;color&lt;/strong&gt; with your background-color : .footer &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;css color and background-color is like a html body tag. if you use a background in the html body tag you should always use a bgcolor.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;if you use color in your css you should use background-color:transparent at the least or a color (same as the background)&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;validation is good and you should always use it, but just because it does validate doesnt mean it will work the same in all browsers, things like: background-position : 0% 0%; is wrong according to the text book way, should just be 0 0;&lt;/p&gt;

    <description> &lt;p&gt;Rob, I went to that validator site but I can&#039;t seem to find where I would do a javascript check.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I did do a css check and Passed with flying colors&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;a href=&quot;http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fhomepages.evansville.edu%2Fbk38%2Fspecial%2Fexample.htm&amp;amp;warning=1&amp;amp;profile=css2&quot; class=&quot;bb-url&quot;&gt;http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fhomepages.evansville.edu%2Fbk38%2Fspecial%2Fexample.htm&amp;amp;warning=1&amp;amp;profile=css2&lt;/a&gt;  but I don&#039;t quite understand some of the warnings they gave me near the middle.  It actually tells me I don&#039;t have a background color set for my .footer , yet if you look at line 99, my .footer DOES have a background color. weird.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I will tell you all this, I have no clue as how to read javascript.  I don&#039;t write the code, so I don&#039;t know how it works.  For Susanne, I do not see the problem, since I am not sure what to look for.  I understand that javascript should be tags as such&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;div class=&quot;codeblock&quot;&gt;&lt;code&gt;&amp;amp;lt;script language=&amp;quot;javascript&amp;quot; type=&amp;quot;text/javascript&amp;quot;&amp;amp;gt;&lt;/code&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&#039;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;But when I did that, the date no longer would show up at all.  So like you and Rob said, the code is poor.&lt;/p&gt;
