If you're looking for quality yet cheap monitors, put your money on Hansol. In total I think I've owned 3-4 Hansols and they all have been great. I actually bought one today for my parents with their new computer (they were using a Celeron 300a, the computer made funny noises and it took about 3 minutes to load IE so it was time to upgrade)

If the monitor has a consistent high pitch sound, it could be that the transformer in the monitor is arching. Which means that it will eventually fail.

Funny but once I had a girl that had similar problems with her monitor. The fix was to remove the oscillating fan from the top of her monitor. With the magnet in the fan, it would make the screen oscillate.

What if it does, Mark? My monitor sqeals a bit when degaussing/refreshing/switching resolutions. Is that a bad thing?

Does your monitor make any high pitched sounds?

And if it's only 3 months old, it's still under warranty. Most monitor warranties are 2 years (at least, the ones I've had). Even at 90 days, you could squeak in if you need to get it fixed.

For the record -- I had two monitors die the same death, which was they got progressively darker until I couldn't see anything on the screen. They were the same type and brand of monitor, and it was a known problem (to them, not to me or I wouldn't have bought the original!).

You might also check the connection to the video card. Some times they can get slightly unseated.

so it is either my monitor or my eyes...

Hopefully it's your monitor. Eyes are not quite so easy to replace. You could borrow a monitor to test it but given the symptoms, it sounds like it is the monitor.
