Maybe I wasn't clear above - if you buy it, the banner ads go away. I think that all of the extra user interface features are worth putting up with the banner ads, if you want to put it that way.

I found a little bug. Maybe it's just my computer, I don't know. But if you have a page with background image and the page content only covers prats of the page (vertically), then the rest will be white (the background doesn't show).

PS. Sorry about the cut picture. It's a project I'm working on that is yet not complete. Maybe I'll post it here when it's done for review.

I never saw Chinese ads on there - that's funny, but then I adapted after awhile and stopped paying attention to them for the most part.

I bought 6 because they had a sale on (and upgrade to v. 7 came included). All registration does is get rid of the banner ad, so yeah v. 6 unregistered is the same as v.6 registered.

If 6, apart from no ads, any different?
I used opera for a while but got sick of all the chinese ads that I couldnt even read and the ocassional lock up (but handy options like browse where you last were helped) so switched to mozilla

It's kind of funny, because before I read this post this morning I was actually thinking about giving mozilla a chance. Ack! The betrayal! I just paid for Opera the other night, how could I think of switching??? But with Opera 7 I am in love again... so beautiful with this healthy green glow.... or purple glow, I can't decide...

Oh, does anyone know what's up with the new built-in navigation bar they have here? It's got the following options: home, index, contents, search, glossary, help, next, previous, first, last, up, copyright, author - is this accessing meta tags or xml schema or what? Some of those would logically move through the file structure I guess. Seems like a really useful addition and I can see some other options that could be added here (privacy statements, security, availability etc.). It's only available on a few pages right now (you can set it to auto, so it'll only show on pages that support it, or top/bottom/left/right as the other toolbars are).

(I would try to go look this up but I'm supposed to be working not playing with Opera here!

To add:

Really cool ability to change colour scheme of chrome
ability to disable only unrequested pop-ups (great!)
seems to be more tolerant of bad code (I was having a problem with the new Toronto star page, because they're putting tags in between paragraphs as rather than surrounding them. Opera 6 doesn't put the space in there, but v. 7 does. Much better.
Speed seems to be even better!!!!!

As a sidenote - the Toronto Star page at thestar.com just came out the other day - it really irritates me to know that someone probably got paid big money to make such a badly coded page.

Yes - same as Netscape, just install it in another directory. The only browser that has problems with multiple versions is IE, since it's so tied into the OS.

ALready I've noticed a couple of bugs fixed (specifically a problem with flash not handling files stored in external directories)

I don't particularly like th enew chrome, but that can always be changed. They've added a few new things to the hotlist (history, transfers, and windows) which is nice. That's all I've noticed so far... I'll have to find a page with a dhtml menu that didn't work before, because their handling of the DOM is supposed to have been fixed, so there should be greater compatibility in that area.

edit: Cool! YOu can also make any webpage to a hotlist panel...
