An example, I want a domain name for another site of mine, I checked it out but found the name is taken but not used.
I could
A/ offer the owner some money for it, but since then it's wanted it could cost the earth
B/ get another extension, .net, .thi, .that ..
C/ pick another name related to it

Since I want it .com I'll probably go with option C

try ebay if you want to try auction them off

Domians are valuable according to who wants them. I wouldn't pay anything for any of them as they don't mean anything to me! If you are buying names up and want to resell them then IMO the best way is to have an auction with them and let people bid on them.
