It looks like the solution is to get another build of php. I found this article and this one also.

When I try to create a new field at the end of the table, I get an error 405 (something like resource not allowed).

What's the error?
My phpMyAdmin works fine with 4.2.3... all I did was move my old phpMyAdmin files over and re-set up the tables and all...

I've not sent in a support request. I've been scouring phpMyAdmin sites, php.net, and google.

Nothing crashes. I just get an error page.

I'm not sure why I have this problem when I haven't compiled with --enable-mbstr-enc-trans.

Does it work at all or crash when you try it? I only use PHPMyAdmin on very rare occasions so I can't give you much help on that one. Any response from the PHPMyAdmin people?
