I just started using phpbb, had no problems installing, running or adding hacks, only problem is no one knows about it yet lol,
but since its more of a want than a need it doesnt really matter, time will tell

phpBB has a file based template system. That can cause the forums to slow down, and eat up more system resources.

I've been working on an install (phpBB) for a client, and I've come across a problem. I created a usergroup to moderate a specific forum. But for some reason, members of that usergroup do not have moderator powers for the specified forum. I've probably missed something.

vB3 will blow all other forum software away. 'nuff said.

Invision Board is great, it will be the best. All of the gaming clans I know use them, they are easy to maintain, easy to customize, quick and great. I have installed quite a few php bb's, I like invisionboard the best.

I've been keeping an eye on Invision Board and it does look very promising and I would rank it probably as the 2nd best free board right now with potential to become the best free board. However, I want to wait and see how fast they fix bugs, release new versions and how much they can improve.

I have to say that Invision Board is the best free PHP forums. ibforums.com ...faster, much faster than PHPBB. People say its as fast as Vbulletin, if not faster, and alot are switching over. But its new, and features are missing, compared to VB. But 1.1 will rock

It has a history of security flaws and is more rough on the edges than vBulletin, but it's a nice free product.

Hacks are great, but not the easyest mods to install.

YaBB's mods are easy to install via a freeware program that you can download.

It is the best free board out there. It doesn't give the support that VB gives you but is nicely done and will save you $160 or so.

We've been offering it to our customers since the begining and in my opinion it's one of the best free message board scripts. The only one I can think of that is better would be vBulletin but that's not free.
