It is not anyone's fault. Spellchecker.net quit providing a free service and thus, vB had to quit offering it. As an alternative, you can use ieSpell.

Yeah, I came to a similar conclusion as well. But the problem, I think, is that the user can never know when someone may reply. Sometimes, people reply surprisingly quickly... and that can kill the user's chances of changing the title. Dialup users can get disconnected just after making the post, and it could them a while to be able to get back to make the change... just a thought.

Here's my faulty logic on the matter...

A user is allowed to change the thread title when no replies are present because no one would need to find the thread again. Such as, a person replies to the thread. Then the thread title is changed. Now that person can't find the thread he had replied to.

Or sumthin like that.

Megan, yep, that is how it's set up. But where I think this is "faulty" is in the fact that a user who posts a thread, can change the thread title, when he/she changes the post subject of that first post, as long as there are no replies in that thread.

I think that's neither here nor there... either the poster must be given right to change the title of his/her thread at any time or never.

You'd think, right? It seems that the thread information, including it's title, is handled separately from the post information. Therefore, while users have the power to edit their own posts, only moderators have the power to edit threads (which includes deleting them, moving them etc.)

You'll also notice that each post, even if it's in the middle of a thread, can have a "Post Subject". In the post a reply template it says "Post Subject", in the edit window it just says "Subject". What the board seems to be doing when you post a new thread is copying the post subject to the thread subject. So, you can edit your post title in the edit window but that won't change the thread title which had already been copied to a separate part of the database.

Anyhow, I guess that's just how the board is set-up.

Hmm k. But I thought thread title and starting post subject were generally the same thing. Especially sine they are treated the same when changing post subject when there are zero replies in the thread.
