u dont need much for that, I used to do this before mp3 popped into existance, and I saved my music to wave files.

You will need a cable that will hook from your stereo to your soundcard, if your stereo has RCA output's one end of the cable needs to be stereo RCA connection, the end to hook into your pc shud be like a normal microphone jack. shudnt be too hard to work out, radio shack shud b able to help if u have troubles.

next you need some free wav editing and recording software, that will capture wave files from the line in or microphone jack off your pc. U can get software like that from download.net or tucows.com for zero bucks. press play on the stereo, press record on your wave recorder, walk away and come back l8r.

once you have recorded your wave files, you just compress them with an mp3 encoder(get it free from download.net etc), and ur done. whole deal should cost no more then the price of the cable. quality will only be as good as your tapes.

have fun.

speaking of sound capturing..

I own a music site and wanted to record my music tapes onto my hardrive.

What hardware would i need?

for example;

MY SOUNDSYSTEM >>> records onto >> HARDRIVE

with GOOD quality and mp3 format (if possible)

I looked around some hardware sites but wasn't sure. I ask their customer services but they said they only deal with sales enquiries.

any ideas?
