You can find cross broswer compatible naviagtional dropdown menus like the ones on microsoft.com by following this link:

Then click on naviagtion which will take you to a list of scripts. Then scroll down to a script called Top Navigation bar, theres a version 1,2,3 and 4 for that script, take your pick.

i made one based on a freeware script called menus.js and a fireworks generated script. i don't think it works in opera but it works in netscape 4+, IE 4+ and all mozilla flavours. feel free to use it or let it inspire you.
