Well you will still have to learn a lot. Get a good book to learn with would be advisable. Using Linux is a good one to start with.

If you want to build a system like you want, they only way to go is to build it yourself. That way you can get exactly what you want on the system. It is also easier to troubleshoot system problems.

RedHat is the most popular choice for a 'Nix based server. Good support and plenty of info on it. I personally prefer Slackware but RedHat is all right.

hahaha...i like that one "RAM is like money. You can never have too much." anyways...i think i will be running RedHat...i'm a newbie at this server stuff, so is that what you would reccommend?

I would agree with most that has been mentioned. Your server specs would depend upon what you plan on using the server for. Is this a webserver, fileserver? Running Windows, Linux?

I would recommend a separate but cheap video card. SCSI or IDE would again depend upon what you would be using the server for and how much money that you have to spend. If money is no object, go for SCSI. You will probably need two NIC's. I tend to prefer those by Intel myself over others. I also tend to prefer AMD since you get a little more band for the buck. RAM is like money. You can never have too much.

yea...lol, i meant GB...how much RAM you suggest? and dont i need a video card to run the images on the monitor? why wouldnt a P3 be worth it...

Why do you need a video card?????
What kind of stuff are you putting on it? 40 GB (BG ) 256 RAM? Probably need more. I dont think a P3 would be worth it... I'd suggest getting an AMD processory though
