I agree with Mairving on some points, but it all depends on what your site is.
Do you have a computer available to host a low-traffic site? What are its specs?
If it is high-traffic, I'd say get a standalone server, running Linux/BSD, not connected to your regular network.
If it is low traffic, use a home computer with plenty of RAM, and run Linux on the same network... I ran a low traffic site on a 100 mhz, 16 mb RAM machine for a few months, until I ran into the need for another workstation, so I upgraded to a 1 ghz, 512 MB RAM machine with RedHat 7.2 and I run VMWare to have windows run with Excel, Word, etc.

It all depends on what you need and what you are doing.

This site offers people with dynamic IPs to host their own site, however, I think they have good information on their support and FAQs on setting up.

Cornflake, welcome to WMF. Some things to consider. One is that you should have the site on a stand-alone server, with a UPS, with a Firewall, not on the same network as your other machines. Several other things to consider are what OS that you will be running. You have a couple of choices, Linux/BSD or Windows. I prefer Linux but it depends upon what you are confortable with.

So depending upon what OS you are planning to run, I can point you at some tutorial sites.
