Perhaps oblivious to reality

Perhaps oblivious to reality and what domain names are actually worth?

Maybe a cheeky attempt to get that one person out of 6 billion that might consider buying it for that price?
Who knows. One thing I would hate is if they sold it for that and came back here and said "I told you so" :slap:

I wouldn't wish them not to sell it for that, but it would be a miracle, and is proven by the fact it hasn't sold in SIX years. On my post prior to my realising this thread was 6 years old, the results I got from google and Alexa where obviously the recent ones, so in 6 years they haven't even gotten the domain popular or ranked in any way :wall:

Lol. Exactly! Wishful thinking isn't it. Perhaps they're thinking that someone stupid enough will come along eventually.

Have either of you looked at the date on the original post? Funny thing is that this conversation is still valid, as it seems the site is still for sale.

The bird with the big gazongas obviously hasn't had the desired effect. Are most people out there buying domains men? If not, I expect most women would be really put-off by the image of the girl on that page. That image is cutting out 51% of the market.

Good luck with your domain

Good luck with your domain name, I guess you should target a certain audience, so if you want to sell it, chance the photo!
Besides, there are services to estimate the value of your domain name like http://www.sedo.com/appraisal.php3

Why? There are established criteria for a domain name price, someone may be lucky and get more than the predicted price in case a potential client for some or another reason needs this particular name.

You might get a few thousand

You might get a few thousand dollars from an already established hosting company or a company with capital wanting to setup a hosting site.

As for $100,000 'personally' I think you are asking too much. I did assume, for that price, that there was already an established hosting website with a decent client base.

This is not a 'get at', but simply friendly advice that you may well be pricing yourself out of the market, and any potential to sell may be lost due to people thinking you want too much and not even bothering to make what would be a decent offer.

Maybe don't state an asking price, and see what offers you get.

It appears to me, and therefore to any potential buyer, that you simply bought a domain name for $10 and now want to make 10,000% profit without doing anything.
I own a lot of domain names, and going by your thoughts, some of mine would be worth millions. This unfortunately is not the reality, and it can take years of emails and phone calls to eventually find a buyer which your domain name is totally perfect for their business. Even then, the price you get depends solely on what they are willing to pay.

Alexa don't rank it at all. It only has one link to it and that's from a forum where you posted a sales ad.
Sites that sell for $100,000 have thousands of hits a day, has an alexa rank of around 20,000 (maybe much better). Typing "dynahost" into google doesn't find your site at least on the first two pages. And although ranking up google listing is a battle, typing your actual website name in should bring yours up first, at the least on the first page.

Again, all friendly advice, but for a site to be worth big money it has to have a lot more to offer than a mediocre name. Any company buying that for $100,000 has to make that money back, they are already $100,000 negative revenue before they even design a site and start earning from it. It's a lot of money for any business to justify spending.

One of the biggest internet hosting companies in the UK is 1and1.co.uk
No reference to hosting at all within the domain name. It's all about marketing and building up a customer base. The people you will fool with your paragraph about the domain being essential to making a website work don't have anywhere near the asking price you have. The people who do have that sort of money wont be fooled. They know how the internet works and a simple sales pitch telling them "they need this domain" will do nothing.
Take a look at some of the names of the biggest sites, are all major domain names relevant to the website content?
Amazon, yahoo, ebay, bebo, monster
Admittedly, a lot of them are, but it's not essential and large companies know this.

Cyberswami wrote: Domain names have been sold for several million dollars.

huh? it's generally 'websites' that sell for millions, the handful of domain names that sold for millions are things like porn.com, vip.com. There are thousands of permutations available to replace your "dyna" and with something else and stick "host" on the end.

Not quite sure what the tarty with the hooters on semi display is for either. Are you selling a domain name with potential for hosting solutions, or sex?

Anyway, good luck. And whatever you do eventually sell it for, would you be kind to post here and tell us to give future reference for others selling domain names.

I am not holding a gun to anybody's head. I am asking what I think is a fair price. There is no objective criterion to determine the price of a domain name. Domain names have been sold for several million dollars. They have also been sold for less than what they were bought for.

If it will make it easy for you to understand, just think of a domain name as a piece of art. You might not pay $2 million for a modern art painting, but somebody else might. The value is in the eyes of the beholder. I have already been offered several thousand dollars for dynahost.com, so I know that potential buyers are interested.

Domain name envy is not a healthy thing!!
