I would change the main header graphic to something more eye catching and appealing, not so boring and plain.

blank td cells wont display on netscape, always use as place holder, can be adjusted with css or font tags for smaller cells

No shim needed, just a blank table data cell.

Thank you, thank you, thank you and all! Will post an update when it's updated.

doublehelix - does a shim need to be inserted into the empty table as a placeholder?

Hmmm... sparse site, but I like the sparse look. Seems a little too sparse though. a footer is a good idea. also, I think a line between the two columns (the column containing the navigation on the left and the column with the content) would help pull it together. In situations like that i just put in a blank table data element with a background color set (ie; ). You'll get a thin vertical colored line that way.

It is a little sparse. I think page footers of some sort would be useful.

I agree that there isn't really much to say about the design except that it is maybe too plain. On a personal note I don't like the hover on the links where the background of the word changes to the green box, I think it looks better to change the colour of the text alone.

This is a good cause and you have some good content. The site is ok but it could be more "lively". I am thinking that a darker background may help the lack of content on some of the pages and make it look "not so empty". Maybe do borders of a different color on both sides.

I would really worry about the length of the story. That is what it is...a story...and if people don't want to read it being that long then they probably won't read it with it shorter. I did notice that the word Paul is used too many times in the story. I would change most of these to "he".

I think maybe expand your table wide, use more of the page, this could make the story appear smaller, will at least loose some scrolling and you know how people hate to scroll.

maybe a link back to the top as well

Jeez, that life story is very poorly written. I would suggest that you recommend to this Paul person that he get somebody to rewrite that. It suffers not only from poor writing style and grammar, but also from lack of purpose. Do not use the person who wrote that article from the Register-Guard (or is that the same person?)*. If you're going to have a life story on a site like this you must have a reason for doing so. Obviously, in this case, this life story should explain why this person is campaigning against child abuse. The problem is that the life story written here completely brushes over what actually happened to Paul. I really don't care that much about the history of his campaigning efforts - it's the reasoning behind it that matters. Get to the point. Oh, there it is, on the second page... sad story

The design is not bad - I don't really have much to say about it. Maybe try making those nav links a little bigger, and make the page number links bigger and more obvious as well. It would be a nice idea to include some photos of him here and there.

* The usual practice when protecting real identities is to make up a name and then include a footnote indicating that "names have been changed to protect the identites... etc." This is what you'll see in magazines and things like that. It's hard to make sense of an article that uses (mother's name) instead.
