Ahhhh... okay. Won't work for me. We have to publish in Flash 2 format (long story) so that's not going to solve my problem... although I guess added features in Flash MX wouldn't work that way either Sigh, I guess I'm stuck with annoying line spacing woes and manually created bullets

'Oh, wait, you import it into the swf not the fla?'

 Well yes, the .swf simply being the compiled version which pulls the text file in via loadVariablesNum(). Flash 5 understands a few basic HTML tags, it's worth checking out.

Interesting! I'll have to try that (the part about importing an HTML file). It'll keep all the paragraphs and list bullets and everything??? Interesting. I could be changing the way I work... hmmmm.... could be interesting. Oh, wait, you import it into the swf not the fla? That wouldn't work for me I don't think.

Loading external text files with HTML code into the .swf is a fast way to format text and update it too. And like most things related to Flash, the use of actionscript (bypassing manual features in the program like tweening etc) can lead to faster workflow in the program. At least that is what I'm finding in my first few months of working with it, .

I'm disappointed that they didn't add more text manipulation features. Little things like the ability to set paragraph spacing separate from line spacing would really make my job easier! And bullets! I don't know of any graphic design programs that do bullets... maybe Quark, or newer versions of Illustrator... A spell checker, like PS 7 would be wonderful as well! It looks like they're catering to more multimedia based development rather than information-based stuff.

Here's another link from CNN regarding Flash MX: http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/ptech/03/05/flash.overhaul.idg/index.html

An excerpt: "One addition to Flash MX allows video to be integrated more easily into a Flash application and viewed on the new version of the Flash Player, which will be released in conjunction with the Flash MX upgrade. That means that when a Web site developed in Flash displays video, it doesn't have to open up a separate media player."

 Very cool, this is a direction I was heading in already, the software company Wildform is promoting a Flash video player interface I built on their website.

· Rich media support — including new native support for video playback and dynamic loading of JPEG and MP3 files at runtime;
· Powerful graphic design tools — including free transform, pixel-level snapping, dynamic masks, and color mixer;
· A complete environment for developing data-driven web applications — with robust ActionScript development environment, new objects, and predefined components;
· XML support — for integrating data from any application server for data-rich web applications;
· A customizable user interface and a new Property Inspector (based on the popular Dreamweaver feature); and
· Much more!
