Although I agree what you are saying Worm, I don't think dragonsjaw needed to goto such a complex way of deleting their history!

The info you gave is excellent but I think he just wanted to clear the drop down menu

deleting IE history

Well, I'm a newbie on the forum here and I don't want to tread on anybody's toes, but I've read the posts on this subject and have to disagree that the suggestions made will fix the problem. But let me prove it to you.

Delete all your Temporary Internet files in the usual way and then use any of the suggestions that have already been made concerning erasing History. Then navigate to the folder called Content.IE5 which is located in the Temporary Internet Files folder using Windows Explorer. Right click the folder and choose Properties from the menu. You'll problably be most surprised to find that this seemingly empty folder which may only contain a few cookies may be consuming several Megabytes of space. That's because Windows stores your history in hidden files regardless of whether you've got the Show All Files option enabled or not. The only way to clear the history is to delete the folder called Content.IE5. Windows rebuilds it the next time you reboot the machine.

To delete the Content.IE5 folder, boot to Safe Mode Command Prompt Only in Win98, or if you're using Win ME, boot to Real Mode DOS using a Windows Startup disk. Change directories until you've got C:\Windows\Tempor~1 and then type "Del Content.IE5" (without quotes) and confirm by hitting "Y". Reboot the machine and navigate to the Content.IE5 folder again. When you right click it this time, you'll find that it will only be about 33k.

If you choose not to take these steps, then anybody with a bit of IT knowledge can boot into DOS and read the Content.IE5 folder and see exactly where's you've been on the 'Net.

You can also clear individual files by right-clicking and deleting.

Start>settings>Taskbar and start menu>start menu programs>clear

It says documents but it will clear the address drop down and the find files box.
