Build Your Own Database Driven Website Using PHP & MySQL by Kevin Yank's a good book for beginner's... plus you can read the 1st 4 chapters first and see if the style suits your tastes...

as for Beginning PHP4 by Wrox Press, i second it... as one who read thru the whole book (at least i left out only the case study chapter) i'd say it's one of the better books available... very good examples and the writer's never get ahead of themselves and explain stuff in an easy to digest manner...

I should also say that this book tends to be rather verbose. I mean, they have separate examples, with complete explanations on using each different type of form element and for each different type of operator. It gets to be kind of redundant after awhile. You might be able to find something just as good but shorter (and less expensive).

Right now I'm learning from Wrox's Beginning PHP It's a good book as well.

I would suggest buying the book PHP - fast and easy web development by Prima Tech
i am only 14, and after about 4 months with this book, i made newbie-developer.com
this book is really a good start for php and mysql.

P.S. Over at newbie-developer.com their will be tutorials, resources, downloads, forums, and more for php and other web languages. if you ever need help in the process of learning php, just post it their.

I typically use webmonkey for tutorials, but have found a decent book w/ Perl for Dummies (duh...I admit it) and one entitled Perl and CGI for the www by elizabeth castro.
