There are several HTML edtiors that have some powerful search/replace features (Homesite is one - you may already have this as it is usually packaged with Dreamweaver) in addition to the text editors that Suzanne and Busy recommended. I'm not sure if any of these can do the kind of wildcards sarches you need but they will search/replace in unopened files.

You also might want to try searching for a stand-alone search/replace tool on your favourite download site. There are some out there, but I can't think of any specific titles right now. I know that you can also program extensions for Homesite - maybe you could extend their search/replace function to do your own routines. You could also look around in the Macromedia Developer's exchange and see if someone else has already built a similar function. I'm really not sure how those extensions work though...

Hmm, I may need to look at that, I use textpad but I really only use it for it's multiple undos. Looking for a onetime execution replace where it will loop through all my replace commands that are preprogrammed. The more I think about, the more I think I should just write a script to do it. I am not to hot on regular expressions so I will have to learn those.

I use editpad (text editor), has a great search and replace function with history. depending on what/how you want to use these wildcards it could be something that could work
