I realize this is over a week later, but my favorite free javascript site is javascriptkit.com (formerly wsabstract.com). There are others that offer more scripts, but this one has a lot, is well organized, and shows good examples of the scripts in action.

If DHTML is of interst I recommend other sections of JavaScriptKit, as well as dynamicdrive.com (like Suzanne said) and also kazaap.com .

I'm not the biggest fan of java applets, but I think the best free site is javapowered.com .

dynamicdrive.com has a number -- what do you want to do?

dhtmlcentral.com (I think -- Thomas Brattli's site) has some nice options as well for various types of javascript/css dealies...
