I leave the update check on in my version of 4.5, simply to tempt me! No luck yet, like the others i haven't seen enough in the upgrade in the way of new features to really tip me over the edge.

If you use HS properly anyway, you'll have snippets and little bits of code all over the place which speeds up dev time enourmmously. So (at least in my opinion) I dont really see the need to upgrade.

mairving, have you tried The GIMP yet? I've heard it's pretty good.

I didn't like it much. I think that I am just too familar with Photoshop. Also I rarely run Linux in Window mode so it doesn't help much. I am curious though if Adobe will have a Unix/Linux version in the near future. After all they are porting it to OSX, which is based on BSD.

Add me to the list, I live by HS 4.5 and Bradsoft's Topstyle.
I also share mairving's sentiment, I long for the day when I can remove that Windows partition.

I agree with the others here. HS is by far the best HTML editor on the market as far as I can tell. You can get a lot of knock-offs for cheaper, but they won't have the full range of features that homesite has. I find that a good editor can speed up development time *a lot* when compared to a bare bones text editor like notepad, and can help you write cleaner and more correct code when compared to WYSIWYG editors.

But I haven't used v. 5 at all if that's what you specifically wanted to know about. It didn't seem to me that the newer features were worth the upgrade from 4.5 - at least not for me at this point in time.

Homesite is also my program of choice. Along with Photoshop, it is the main reason I still use Windows since there are no Linux versions available.

You might look at this thread for more info.

I've been using HomeSite since version 2.5. The basic program is so good that, like Jack, I only bother upgrading if there are dramatic enhancements. I skipped v3 altogether, got 4 and 4.5 but am as of yet, undecided whether to bother with 5. The most significant feature being XHTML support

Hmm, it occurs to me that you may not currently be using HS at all and we are here discussing upgrades

If this is the case, I highly recommend the program in general. The only con is some self-confessed issues with system resources.

HomeSite only recently became a Macromedia product. I imagine that you can expect it to become further integrated with the rest of their product line as time goes by.

IMO HS 5 is a good choice if you haven't got HS 4.5. Otherwise I should stick with HS 4.5 (like I did after using the HS 5 trial )

Hope it helps,
