i just got 2 more $4.95 offers on 2 other domains i registered through namezero. the only downside is that its an "end-of-term" upgrade to plus. this means that basically it is just transferring ownership to you, and the domain will still expire in the few months it has left unless you renew it (plenty of cheap registrars you can transfer to, i tend to use registerfly.com). log into the control panel (http://controlpanel.namezero.com) and on the front page they will list your upgrade options. the top one (on all the domains i have there) says $4.95. or maybe they only send out that offer once you've had your domain for a while?

i bought my domain FolsomSucks.com from namezero before it expired. it was like $8.99 or something like that.

expired domains can take anywhere from 30 days to 90 days to infinity to actually become available. it took 60 days for a domain i recently bought to become available (it was originally registered through network solutions). theres a "famous" domain out there that expired something like 10 years ago but is still listed in the whois (can't remember which one though..).

Most good hosts usually giv you a option of sending you a e-mail month or two before your domain expires. Some hosts that are really cheap don't do that. Instead they wait for it to expire and then resel it or renew it for $35 or so.

I have had the domain name at namezero for over a year. I want the thing to expire so that i can buy it cheaper with someone else. However, it's like they just won't let go of it.

dont wait for it to expire they will hold the domain and charge a 35.00 renew fee about 6 weeks before it expires transfer it out

I did the same boo-boo by registrating my free domain with them a year ago. But I renewed it, because I didn't want to lose it!
I'm afraid if you wait until it expires, you'll never get it back. And if then you decide to buy it from them, you'll pay much more. I paid 19.95 for my domain BEFORE it expired (still a lot, I know!) but my friend's domain has expired already and now she has to pay like 34 bucks to get it back!

You might not be able to get after all. There are services and sleazy individuals who prey on expired domain names. Happened to me with 913studios.com. Who the hell would want that domain besides myself? The domain I got through namezero (twisttheknife.net) is still being "held" even though it expired, according to NS Whois, on Sept. 9
