No one will let his/her client to go away for free. Now a days many web hosts provide domain registration with the hosting package only.

If your friend want to save his future investment, then have to pay for $25 for the migration part.

Before you go to registers domain,it is always good to cross check prices at various registrar.Almost all of them have different prices for different domain extension for example if you buy a .in , .co , .com domain .

Ok, What about new domains, that ICCAN slowly releasing? Names like .tattoo .menu or .guru are avaliable now. But beside that film which in fun way explain all idea about new gTLDs, I can't find any information about prices. And what do you thing generally about those domain names. Can they be supplant or replace for common domains like .com or .net ?

I agree that Network Solutions charges too much for domain names, I found changing my domains nameservers a total breeze.I think it took me a whole 5 minutes to do the change through my account manager.
