It seems that being boring is a problem, so how would I go about making it livelier?

Thanks for all the comments, keep them coming!!!

better, but still too plain.

you need to grab your viewer, make them want to go into your site and find out more, make them want your service, I think its the first 11 seconds will either get them or loose them, so you need a selling point on the first section, not just a list.

your nickname (if it is a nickname) doesnt really suit your product, in this case mortages, which in some cases can be many tens of thousands of dollars, trust is another part you have to put across with saying "trust me". just use something like "contact GMAC for details"

I take it your based in America, maybe add USA in front of the phone and fax numbers and even add it to your address, the net is an international audience.

In Netscape 4.7 your banner is cut in half (only top half shows) so looked at your code and noticed you have a title in your style sheet link, never seen that before, but if it works ...
I cant work out your layout, I counted 5 table tags. your site could be done nicely with just two, one for the top banner and links, and one for the rest. but thats your choice

nothing seems wrong with the code, maybe its tripods fault

Ok you said be very critical

Its really boring.........it doesn't seem interesting at all. Just some stuff about interest rates and such.......

Maybe its just me but everything seems to be to far to the right.

I changed my design to be without frames and it's at

http://cfzd146.tripod.com/test2/

(temp. host so pop-ups won't be a problem)

please be very critical!!

Thanks.

Moderator edit : merged new thread to continue the old thread so people are reviewing the changes.

If you are using an external source for content then I feel that it should always be shown as such. Frames really are more hassle than they are worth at times, especially if you are wanting to be found by search engines.

::whoa:: thanks for all the responses!!! Maybe I should have explained a bit, the story was just a text filler, sorry if that was confusing.

The reason I used frames was because I have a link to an outside site which has information relevant to my site (not actually abc.com, that's just for example), and I didn't think it would be good to lead visitors away. Do you think that frames are a good idea?

Once again, thanks for all comments, and I highly welcome more!

I always recommend that you use fonts that all browsers can use. If you use there will be no problem for any browser to show your text.

This site has totally confused me! From the top part I thought it was about mortgages but then I read the story (yes all of it) and it's just a childs story, I thought it may have a moral tale associated with home ownership!

What content is the site going to have? The top logo looks like a banner ad. Overall very dull looking. I know mortgages aren't the most interesting subject but the site needs to be interesting looking to keep someones attention.

You really need to rethink the layout and if you have to use frames you'll need to put in some noframes content for the spiders to crawl with links to all the other pages and make sure if they index the other pages that you have some kind of frame jamming script in them so that the pages will appear in the frame correctly.

Hmmm, Is this a home ownership site or a site about Abby from the planet Ehatr? I didnt read all of it, just skimed through it.

If your going to use that story, splitting it up over several pages is a good idea, even pictures would help break it up, using more pages can make it look smaller in length.

Is it a logo or an ad banner? could look like a ad banner so I for one would pay it any attention, I'm one of these people that hate pop-ups, banners etc
if it is your banner, what does "Wei Zhao" mean?

On 800x600 the fax and below is cut off
why use frames? your naviagtion is simple and plain so would be easily set up in a table layout, frames are better suited to large image sites or sites with heaps of sub sections, but even these dont need frames as tables do the same job just as well if not better.

Frames are going to hurt you with search engines. Tables would really serve you better.

I wouldn't have two sets of navigation links. You've got ones to the right of the logo and down the left frame. It's too confusing. Also, at 800x600 if I enable all the bars up top of my browser, your fax # is unviewable since the frame doesn't allow scrolling.

Don't forget to title your pages. "Untitled Document" is not very memorable if someone bookmarks it.

I think this should be two words: "home ownership".

Overall, it doesn't look bad, just doesn't really grab me.
