SirMack, I have first hand experience with FutureQuest and highly recommend them. VenturesOnline are very good as well. I didn't read Keegans long post (aka book ), but as you probably already know, you should stay away from any web host that "claims" to offer unlimited space/bandwidth.

While there are some truly good hosts out there, it has become painfully obvious that the ones you see the most are the most lifeless excuse for a service you can think of.

No need to mention names here, there are plenty of examples.

When someone looks for hosting they should keep this in mind.

Do people actually respond via e-mail or have they become so large that e-mail to them is more a pain, so they use autoresponders, and help desk systems. A host should have enough caring to be able to direct their customers to a helpdesk system instead of relying on it for every single point of communication.

Shared payment gateway services that take upwards to 24 hours to respond is unacceptable, and everyone really needs to wake up to this. Normal business hours are hard to accomplish with the many times zones, but a stated business hours statement should be mandatory for your host.

A contact number that actually works. If you are going to advertise customer contact through the phone then please offer it.

It is also obvious that you are making money so hire more people. Cover the customers you have instead of beating the ones you have with intimidation, they are waking up to it.

And if they arent they will soon enough.

It is very clear that the large base of customers that the Internet offers is truly tempting but it really comes down to how many you can support.

Those hosts that are not supporting their customers should realize that they are beating a dead horse gaining new customers on top of that, their attemtps will be met with Karma that will pay them back for being greedy.

The reason I write this is because being a customer of a host that truly takes the time to help through trying times with these other hosts

(Hostrocket- Tell this hosting company that you need your DNS changed and they will close your account within the reply to your ticket, even if you have paid up for a good time longer. buyer beware, hostrocket is really crap hostrocketsucks.com)

I am sure that the one company owner that this example is referring to gets painfully ill soon.

I am sticking with the host I have for all of the reasons I have determined to be acceptable. Customer support. Human interaction. Honesty, and genuine thank yous.

You know who you are, and I salute you.

The ones that are the bad examples above please spare your customers the pain of having to move from you by either taking care of them now, or helping them move wihtout punishing them.
