We don't really want a microsoft product because we're an IBM/Websphere shop. We've actually chosen a solution through IBM called Aptrix (Presence Online). The CMS' that we looked at were:

Interwoven
Vigenette
Aptrix
Stellant
Documentum
Percussion

along with a proposal from Cap Gemini Ernst & Young to help us develop something in house.

Along with our portal & personalization servers, we should have a pretty bitchin' intranet in about 6-8 months.

I've done 6 months of Interwoven Teamsite admin and personally think it is a very good product. As you say in your post, it isn't for small enterprises, I used it at the biggest online travel agents in Europe, which bought it in the Dotcom boom.

I think it's really easy to administer, the deployment of the site is pretty seamless. We ran it on a Sun Solaris backend and the virtual filesystem could, from time to time be a little flaky. One negative point I have to say is that the support in the UK was very bad indead, it may be better in the US but in the UK they where no use at all.

The users (content developers) didn't love it, they didn't hate it either. With any creative people, having to check in and out files can stem the creative flow but any content management system will have this problem.

I just thought i'd update ya'll on what's been going on. Our company has pretty much decided on Interwoven for our WCM solution. Question: Has anyone used Plumtree or IBM eBusiness portal soltions on their intranet? Anyone familiar with the products?

Thanks for the info but we're looking for something that IS a complete solution that will serve (with and established workflow solution) 1000 publishers and 110,000 visitors on a daily basis.

If your looking for a simple solution, take a look at http://www.flexwindow.com. It's a service, you add one line of JavaScript to your page and update your content by e-mail. How simple can it be? It's not a complete CMS solution, but it works well for annoucements, product updates, etc.

At this time we're looking really hard at Interwoven. Gartner Group research rated them the highest on ability to execute. Our resources/brain power are not at issue. It's mostly what kind of bang for the buck we can get. Chances are we're looking at a seven figure prices for any of these. Anyone else have any experience with these vendors?

Out of those, I have only used Vignette, but coincicently, Vignette has been the only one I have worked with on sites. I like it - if you an afford it and get it setp, it is worthwhile.

I would go with Vignette, since their platfrom is kind of more understandable and easier to deploy. But, everything depends on your needs and how you want to proceed.

We have some experience with their e-commerce platform - very good, but very pricy...
